WoW Midnight Expansion Adds Third Demon Hunter Spec: The Devourer
WoW Midnight Expansion Adds Third Demon Hunter Spec: The Devourer
What We Know About the Devourer Specialization in WoW: Midnight
The Devourer is the brand-new mid-range DPS spec for Demon Hunters, channeling Void and Cosmic magic to rip through enemies.
Some of the standout abilities in the Devourer’s kit include:
Void Metamorphosis – A dark transformation fueled by harvesting souls.
Collapsing Star – A heavy-hitting finisher that delivers serious impact.
Void Ray – Fires a piercing beam of pure Void energy.
Reap – Swings a spectral scythe that consumes soul fragments.
Voidblade & Hungering Slash – A fluid melee combo that ends with a quick retreat.
The Devourer brings a whole new flavor to the Demon Hunter class — still fast and aggressive, but with a more sinister, otherworldly edge.
Hero Talents: Annihilator
Every new spec needs its own Hero Talent tree, and for Devourer, that’s Annihilator — a theme all about calling down void comets and unleashing cosmic chaos. Blizzard hasn’t shared every detail yet, but expect flashy, over-the-top attacks that fit perfectly with the Devourer’s mid-range playstyle.
Here’s how the Hero Talents break down for Demon Hunters in the Midnight expansion:
Havoc: Scarred & Aldrachi Reaver
Vengeance: Annihilator & Aldrachi Reaver
Devourer: Annihilator & Scarred
One cool note, the old Fel-Scarred tree for Havoc and Vengeance is now just Scarred, since the Devourer spec doesn’t use Fel energy.
Stats, Weapons, and Gear
One of the biggest shake-ups is that Devourer Demon Hunters will use Intellect instead of Agility. It fits the new caster-meets-melee vibe but comes with a neat twist.
Warglaives are still your main weapon, but now they’ll auto-swap their primary stat based on your spec, no more grinding for duplicate glaives just to switch roles.
Scythes are also being added as a cosmetic weapon option, which couldn’t be more perfect for the Devourer’s soul-reaping, void-powered style.
New Playable Race: Void Elf Demon Hunters
It’s official - Void Elves are joining the ranks of Demon Hunters in the Midnight expansion! They’ll be the second Alliance race able to take up Illidan’s path, standing alongside Night Elves.
On the Horde side, things stay the same - only Blood Elves can become Demon Hunters. Blizzard mentioned that Midnight’s story will dig deeper into why this divide still exists, so we might finally get some in-universe answers.
Void Elf Racial Traits include:
Spatial Rift - Blink through a rift in space (30 yards, 3 min cooldown).
Chill of Night - Take 1% less Shadow damage.
Entropic Embrace - Your abilities can surge with Void energy, boosting damage and healing by 5% for 12 seconds.
Ethereal Connection - Cuts Void Storage and Transmog costs in half.
Preternatural Calm - Your spellcasts won’t get interrupted by damage.
Void Elves are a perfect fit for the Devourer spec, blending Void magic and Demon Hunter aggression into one seriously stylish combo.
Devourer: The Perfect Hybrid Playstyle
The Devourer spec is all about resource control and timing your bursts just right. You’ll be generating Soul Fragments, then cashing them in at the perfect moment to unleash huge finishers.
Its mid-range flexibility lets you weave in and out of combat - dive in for a quick combo, then back out to rain down Void magic.
Soul Fragment consumption fuels your biggest moments, especially when it comes to keeping Void Metamorphosis rolling.
With strong execute potential, Devourer really shines when enemies are on their last legs.
If you like hybrid playstyles that mix fast melee strikes with flashy ranged abilities, this spec might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
