WoW Forever's Legacy system has dozens of perks spread across three trees, and most of the attention goes to the obvious ones: Rested Experience, gathering yield, skill-up chance. One perk sitting quietly in the Professions tree can double a currency most players haven't even started thinking about yet. It's called Performance Bonus, and it's worth understanding before you spend your first Legacy Points at launch on November 4, 2026.

What Does Performance Bonus Actually Do?
Performance Bonus is a perk in the Professions Legacy Tree. Each rank gives you a chance to receive 100% increased Merchant's Favor when you turn in a supply crate to the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) or Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde).
The perk has three ranks:
- Rank 1: 5% chance to double the Merchant's Favor from a crate turn-in
- Rank 2: 10% chance
- Rank 3: 15% chance
In practice, that means roughly one in every six or seven crates at max rank hands you double the currency for the same turn-in. It's not a guaranteed bonus on every crate, so treat it as a long-run average rather than something you'll notice on any single turn-in.
What Does It Cost to Unlock?
Performance Bonus isn't available from the start of the Professions tree. It requires five points already spent in the Professions tree, plus a rank in Bountiful Harvest, the gathering-yield perk that boosts scarce materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning.
That prerequisite matters more than it looks. At launch, each character can spend a maximum of 16 Legacy Points, even though the account can earn up to 65. Five of those 16 points are already committed before Performance Bonus becomes available at all, and that's before spending anything on the perk itself. For a character trying to build a balanced Legacy Tree across Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness, that's a meaningful chunk of a small budget.
Is Performance Bonus Worth Taking?
This depends entirely on what the character is for, which is the whole point of the 16-point cap. Blizzard designed Legacy so players choose perks that fit a specific character rather than trying to unlock everything.
Performance Bonus makes sense if:
- You're leveling a character through profession-heavy content and plan to turn in supply crates regularly.
- Enchanting recipes turn out to be gated behind Merchant's Favor, since Enchanting is reported to be the standout profession for the new currency.
- You already have Bountiful Harvest for the gathering bonus and the extra five points aren't a big loss elsewhere.
It makes less sense if:
- Your character won't be farming crates at all, such as a PvP-focused alt or a raid-only main.
- You'd rather spend those points on more immediately useful Professions perks like Working Overtime (skill-up chance) or Master Chef (bonus Cooking results).
- You're still deciding on professions and don't know yet whether crate farming fits your playtime.
Compare it against the tree's other options before committing. Bountiful Harvest alone gives a flat, guaranteed 20% (or 40% at rank 2) more scarce gathering materials. Performance Bonus gives a chance-based bonus to a currency whose full shopping list still isn't public. For a first character, the guaranteed gathering bonus is the safer pick, with Performance Bonus as a second-tier investment once you know how much you'll actually rely on Merchant's Favor.
Why This Perk Signals Something Bigger
Performance Bonus is a small detail, but it tells you how Blizzard expects players to engage with Merchant's Favor. Legacy perks are account-wide unlocks, and Blizzard doesn't build a dedicated perk around a one-off system. A perk that doubles a currency's yield only matters if you're expected to earn that currency repeatedly, over weeks or months, not just once for a single recipe.
That fits the broader design goal behind Legacy: reward the things players are already doing rather than force one path. If crate turn-ins become a background activity while you level and quest, Performance Bonus quietly compounds that activity over time. It also reinforces something worth remembering about the whole Legacy system: the perks that look unglamorous on a list can matter more than the flashy ones once you're actually playing.
What We Still Don't Know
A few things about Performance Bonus and the surrounding systems haven't been confirmed:
- Whether the doubled Merchant's Favor applies to the entire crate reward or only part of it.
- Whether higher-value crates (the "full shipment" turn-ins) benefit from the same proc chance as basic crates.
- Whether Legacy Points can be freely respecced, which would make experimenting with Performance Bonus much lower-risk.
- The complete list of what Merchant's Favor actually buys, which determines how much this perk is worth chasing in the first place.
