11 New WoW Forever Classes Just Leaked — Every One Explained

Before World of Warcraft: Forever has even launched, Blizzard is already asking players what they want next. A player survey — reportedly sent out to a small group and marked confidential — leaked in late September 2026, and it describes 11 potential new class concepts being tested for the game, ranging from long-requested fan favorites like the Necromancer and Tinker to completely new ideas like the Illusionist and Rune Knight.

This guide breaks down everything reportedly in that survey: what each class would do, what's clearly a serious pitch versus what reads like an early placeholder, and why you shouldn't treat any of this as a done deal. For the bigger picture of zones, professions, and progression, see our WoW Forever Complete Classic Plus Guide, or read up on the game's new crafting currency in our Merchant's Favor guide.

The Leak in 30 Seconds

  • What happened: a Blizzard player survey asking about potential new WoW Forever classes leaked online, reportedly by accident.
  • How many classes: 11 concepts total — 8 entirely new class ideas, plus reworked "classic-from-level-1" takes on three classes that already exist in retail (Demon Hunter, Death Knight, Monk).
  • Standouts: Illusionist, Necromancer, and Tinker got the strongest community reaction; Bard got the coolest by far.
  • A real inconsistency in the leak: two of the classes (Warden and San'layn) list identical example abilities, which looks like a template error in the survey document rather than an intentional shared toolkit.
  • The big caveat: this is a preference survey, not a roadmap. Blizzard says explicitly that "not all of the ideas you may see are actually under consideration" — treat every class below as a maybe, not a confirmed feature.

What Actually Happened

According to the survey's own framing, Blizzard is testing "multiple ideas that have come from many different places, including from prior survey feedback." Players were asked what kind of class fantasy, playstyle, and role they'd want to see — melee DPS, ranged DPS, tank, healer, or support — and shown short flavor-text descriptions for each concept alongside a rough breakdown of armor type, weapon type, resource, and a few example abilities.

Everything below comes from a leaked copy of that survey, reacted to and read aloud on video by community creators. Blizzard has not confirmed or commented on any of it. Some of this may never ship; some of it may change substantially before it does. Read the specifics as "here's the pitch they tested," not "here's what's coming."

The Full List of Potential Classes

ClassRolesConcept
IllusionistRanged DPSMage-style caster built around mirror images, illusions, and elemental bolts
NecromancerRanged DPSPet-based undead commander — the class that was cut from vanilla WoW's original design
Rune KnightTank / Healer / Melee DPSTitan-taught rune-carvers who transmute their bodies into metal
BardSupport / HealerSong-based buffs, debuffs, and healing through musical instruments
WardenTank / Melee DPSNight elf-rooted bounty hunters and jailers, as seen in Warcraft 3
San'laynTank / Melee DPS (reported)Vampiric blood elves tied to Icecrown Citadel's Scourge lore
WitchRanged DPS / SupportForbidden old magic, blood sacrifice, and dark alchemy
TinkerTank / Ranged DPS / SupportMech-piloting engineers who can eject and rebuild after their mech is destroyed
Demon Hunter (classic)Melee DPSRetail's kit, reworked for a from-level-1 classic experience
Death Knight (classic)Tank / Melee DPSNo special starting scenario — you begin at level 1 like every other class
Monk (classic)Tank / Melee DPS / HealerRetail's kit with a new figurine-summon mechanic replacing totems

San'layn's role is our best read on an ambiguous section of the leak — see its section below for why.

Illusionist

"Masters of perception and deception. Illusionists are dazzling archinists who reconstruct reality itself through memory and observation. By meticulously studying the world around them, they build an ever-growing catalog of experiences to draw upon, learning to replicate sight, sound, scent, and behavior with uncanny precision. From that knowledge, they weave fantasms into existence, conjure creatures, animate mirror images, and dazzle with colorful lights designed to overwhelm the senses. Illusionists do not merely trick the mind. They replace reality with something better suited to their will."

Role: Ranged DPS · Armor: Leather · Weapons: Wand, staff · Resource: Mana

  • Prismatic Bolt — unleash a bolt of multicolored light at the enemy within 40 yards, dealing damage of a random elemental type. Has a chance to instantly create a mirror image of the caster that casts spells at the target for 15 seconds.
  • Shell Game — instantly swap places with one of your active mirror images.
  • Fantasmic Creature — create three illusionary murlocs that fight alongside you for 20 seconds, coordinating their attacks against nearby enemies. These fantasms are fragile and easily destroyed. Instant cast, high mana cost, 2-minute cooldown. By fighting different creatures, you unlock new versions of this summon — start with murlocs, and kill enough dragons to eventually summon dragons instead.

Of everything in the leak, this is the class that generated the most excitement in the community reaction — a genuinely new fantasy for WoW rather than a reskin of an existing archetype, closer to a summoner/illusion-mage hybrid than anything currently in the game.

Necromancer

"Outcast mages who seek dominion over life and death. Necromancers study the forbidden art of raising and commanding the dead. Though many serve the Lich King, a rebellious few seek to end the undead scourge plaguing Lordaeron. Necromancers spread disease, wield shadow magic, and afflict their enemies with the icy embrace of death."

Role: Ranged DPS only · Armor: Cloth · Weapons: Mace, dagger, wand · Resource: Mana

  • Raise Dead — animate the corpse of a fallen enemy to fight at your command for 5 minutes. The undead servant retains its form but none of its will. You may control up to six undead minions at one time. Moderate mana cost.
  • Bone Spear — conjure a slow-moving spear of jagged bone that pursues a target within 40 yards for up to 3 seconds, tracking around obstacles and out of line of sight. 3-second cast time, low mana cost.
  • Corpse Explosion — detonate a nearby corpse or one of your undead minions, dealing shadow damage to all enemies within 10 yards. 10-second cooldown, high mana cost.

The Necromancer isn't a new idea — it was originally planned for vanilla WoW and cut before launch, with pieces of its identity later folded into the Warlock and Death Knight. It's also one of the most consistently requested classes in the community for two decades running, which is likely why the reaction to seeing it here was less "surprise" and more "finally."

Rune Knight

"Masters of the metallic arts passed down to them by the titans. Rune masters walk the line between flesh and living alloy. They seek to uncover the secrets of creation and restore the natural world. Rune masters carve runes into their own flesh and weapons, partially transmuting their bodies into iron, silver, lead, and other metals, enhancing their unarmed combat and mastery of the elements."

Role: Tank / Healer / Melee DPS · Armor: unspecified · Weapons: Polearm, fist weapons (unarmed), dual wield · Resource: Runes / Runic Power

  • Iron Fist — transform your fist into pure iron and shatter your target with a crushing blow that sunders their armor for 30 seconds. Costs one Iron Rune, generates 10 Runic Power.
  • Silvered Wind — exhale a breath of razor-cold silver, freezing the target enemy within 30 yards. Costs one Silver Rune.
  • Reconstruct — invoke the lost powers of creation to heal an ally within 30 yards.

A titan-flavored class that can tank, heal, or deal melee damage unarmed — the first WoW class concept built around literally becoming a weapon rather than wielding one.

Bard

"Masterful actors, storytellers, and virtuoso musicians. Bards inspire their allies and unsettle their enemies through grand performances and enchanting melodies. Bards weave layered songs into an endless tapestry of music that heals, empowers, and hinders, all while fighting alongside companions with bow or blade. Rather than swaying the battlefield with raw power, bards excel at strengthening allies and manipulating the minds of their foes."

Role: Support / Healer · Armor: Leather · Weapons: One-handed sword, dagger, bow, musical instruments · Resource: Mana

  • Heroic Saga — perform a song of valor, inspiring party members and increasing their attack and spell casting speed by 5%. Repeating this song intensifies its effect, stacking up to three times (15% at max stacks).
  • Ballad of Beauty — perform a soothing melody for 30 seconds, healing party members and removing a poison or disease effect. Also stacks up to three times.
  • Mesmerizing Entrance — disorient the target with visions of immense wealth for 30 seconds.

The most requested class in tabletop and other RPGs that WoW has never had. The leak lists it as support-and-healer only, with no DPS spec — and "musical instruments" as an actual weapon type is exactly as unusual as it sounds. This was the most divisive concept in the community reaction: interesting idea, weird execution.

Warden

"Wardens are the chosen agents of the elves, serving as secret enforcers, jailers, and relentless bounty hunters tasked with pursuing threats beyond the reach of ordinary law. Feared for their ruthless efficiency, wardens hunt criminals, monsters, and rogue spellcasters across Azeroth, delivering swift judgment to their marks and capturing the most elusive of prey. Once drawn exclusively from night elf society, the Wardens have cautiously opened their ranks, as the threats to Azeroth have grown."

Role: Tank / Melee DPS · Armor: Plate · Weapons: One-handed sword, axe, dagger, shield, dual wield (no two-handers) · Resource: Mana and Health

Wardens are an established Warcraft 3 unit type — Maiev Shadowsong, the character who spent most of Warcraft's story hunting Illidan, was one. This isn't an invented concept, just one that's never been a playable WoW class.

A genuine leak inconsistency: the example abilities listed for Warden — Blood Bolt, Blood Mirror, Vampiric Bite — are identical to the ones listed for San'layn below. That's very unlikely to be an intentional shared toolkit between a night-elf-rooted plate tank and a vampiric blood elf caster; it reads far more like a placeholder or copy-paste error in the survey document itself. Take Warden's specific abilities with a heavy grain of salt until a cleaner version of this leak (or an official reveal) shows up.

San'layn

"Elves raised into vampiric undeath by the Lich King to serve as cruel masters of blood magic. The San'layn were among the most feared servants of the Scourge. During the Forsaken rebellion, some San'layn broke free from his domination, ultimately finding uneasy acceptance among both the Alliance and the Horde."

Role: reported as tank/melee in the leak's example-ability block, though the community reaction to this section flagged the audio and on-screen text as hard to fully separate from Warden's — treat the exact role as unconfirmed until a cleaner copy of the leak surfaces.

  • Blood Bolt — sacrifice a portion of your own life to launch a bloody missile at the target within 40 yards, damaging them and siphoning some of their life energy. The caster heals for 10% of the damage done. Costs 5% of base health.
  • Blood Mirror — link yourself to a targeted enemy in melee range; for the next 10 seconds, 30% of all damage done to you is instead done to the target.
  • Vampiric Bite — release your restraint and bite an enemy in melee range for 100% weapon damage, gaining Crimson Fury for 15 seconds.
  • Crimson Frenzy — causes you to heal for 20% of all damage you deal and increases your attack speed by 20%. If the target does not die within 15 seconds, they will also gain Crimson Frenzy.

The name is inconsistently spelled across the leak and its transcriptions ("Sunline," "Sandlane," "Sendlane"), but the flavor text is unmistakably describing the San'layn — the vampiric blood elves introduced in Wrath of the Lich King's Icecrown Citadel raid, led in that story by Blood-Queen Lana'thel. This is existing, well-established Warcraft lore being pitched as a playable class rather than a new invention.

Witch

"Practitioners of the old magic. Witches are outcasts, misfits, and hermits who bind themselves to the powers that existed before mortal order — elemental powers, wild gods, and even the eldritch lords of the Black Empire. Where others see forbidden power, witches see the world as it once was and strive to restore that primordial balance through ritual, blood sacrifice, and dark alchemy. Witches wield power that is equal parts gift and corruption, shaping devastation and aid from the same dark source."

Role: Ranged DPS / Support · Armor: Cloth · Weapons: Dagger, one-handed mace, wand · Resource: Mana

  • Cauldron of Menace — brew a volatile elixir infused with the menace of a fallen enemy. Allies may drink from the cauldron once per combat, gaining 20% increased damage done for 30 seconds, but suffering 10% increased damage taken. 30-minute cooldown, cannot be used during combat.
  • Void Bolt — blast an enemy within 40 yards with a burst of void magic fueled by your own life. If it kills the target, you are healed for five times the health you sacrificed. Costs 5% of base health.
  • Blood Golem — sacrifice part of your own life to manifest a blood golem that attacks enemies with crushing melee strikes and can endure heavy punishment. Costs 20% of base health.

Functionally, this reads close to a Diablo-style Witch Doctor more than a traditional WoW spellcaster — a health-sacrifice caster with a pet golem and party-wide risk/reward buffs. Worth noting: Blood Golem in particular feels like it belongs on San'layn's kit rather than Witch's, given the shared "sacrifice your own health for power" theme — another sign this leak may still be an early, unpolished draft.

Tinker

"Engineers who construct and pilot powerful mechanized suits tailored for warfare. Tinkers customize their mechs for explosive firepower, brutal close-quarter assaults, or battlefield support. Each tinker modifies their machine with their own specialized augmentations and experimental technology. Unlike other combatants, a tinkerer fights with two lives: when the mech is destroyed, the pilot is violently ejected instead of killed — surviving long enough to repair and reactivate their machine. Tinkers can recover from seemingly certain defeat, turning catastrophic failures into desperate comebacks."

Role: Tank / Ranged DPS / Support

Tinker is the longest-rumored class in WoW's history — Blizzard developers have discussed the concept in interviews for over a decade, and unused Tinker-flavored assets have shown up in game files across multiple expansions. What's new here is the "second life" mechanic: your mech has its own health pool separate from your character, and losing it ejects you rather than killing you outright, giving you a window to repair and rejoin the fight. It's the first class kit in WoW built around surviving your own death, in a sense — a genuinely novel design hook rather than a reskinned existing archetype.

Support-role Tinkers are also reported to deliver supply crates — a direct tie-in to the game's new Merchant's Favor currency system, if that detail holds up.

The Reworked Classic Versions: Demon Hunter, Death Knight, and Monk

Three of the 11 concepts aren't new class fantasies — they're existing retail classes being pitched with a from-level-1, classic-appropriate version of their kit instead of the retail experience (which normally starts you mid-story at a higher level with a dramatic intro scenario).

Death Knight (Classic)

Plate armor, two-handed weapons and polearms, rune/Runic Power resource. Keeps the core kit — Death and Decay, Death Strike, Pestilence, Death Grip, Army of the Dead, Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Death Coil — but explicitly will not have the signature starting scenario retail Death Knights get. You begin at level 1, tank or melee DPS, like every other class.

Demon Hunter (Classic)

Leather armor, dual-wielded warglaives and most one-handed weapons, Fury resource (max 100). Chaos Strike, Demon Blades (passive shadow damage + Fury generation on melee attacks), and Metamorphosis (leap and crash for damage/stun on up to four targets, then transform into a demon for 20 seconds, 2-minute cooldown) all carry over largely unchanged from retail.

Monk (Classic)

Leather armor, staff/polearm weapons, dual wield, energy and chi resource. Jab, Blackout Kick, and Surging Mist are lifted essentially verbatim from retail. The one genuinely new detail: Monks reportedly get a figurine pet/cosmetic mechanic in place of the totem-style summons other classes use — a small but distinct flavor change rather than a mechanical overhaul.

What We Don't Know Yet

  • Whether any of these 11 concepts will actually ship, or how many — Blizzard's own survey language says explicitly that not everything shown is under active consideration.
  • Full spec breakdowns beyond the 2-3 example abilities shown per class.
  • Whether the Warden/San'layn shared-ability overlap is a leak artifact or reflects something real about early, unfinished class design.
  • San'layn's actual intended role — the leak's own material is ambiguous here.
  • Timeline. This was a preference survey, not a patch note. Even a class the community loves could be years from actually being playable.

Most of what's here comes from a leaked internal survey and a community reaction video reading its contents aloud — not an official Blizzard announcement. Treat every flavor text quote, every ability tooltip, and every role assignment above as provisional and subject to change, if it ships at all.

WoW Forever Leaked Classes FAQ

Is this leak officially confirmed by Blizzard?

No. This comes from a player survey that leaked, reportedly by accident, and was read aloud and reacted to in a community video. Blizzard has not made an official statement about any of these specific class concepts.

How many new classes are in the leaked survey?

11 total: eight entirely new class concepts (Illusionist, Necromancer, Rune Knight, Bard, Warden, San'layn, Witch, Tinker) and three reworked "classic-from-level-1" versions of existing retail classes (Demon Hunter, Death Knight, Monk).

Does this mean these classes are coming to WoW Forever?

Not necessarily. The survey itself states that "not all of the ideas you may see are actually under consideration at the time" and that player feedback simply helps Blizzard understand preferences. This is closer to market research than a roadmap.

What's the San'layn class based on?

Established Warcraft lore: vampiric blood elves raised by the Lich King, first introduced as a raid-boss faction in Wrath of the Lich King's Icecrown Citadel (led by Blood-Queen Lana'thel). The class concept pitches them as a playable option built around blood magic and self-sacrifice for power.

Why do Warden and San'layn have the same abilities in the leak?

Unclear — most likely a template or copy-paste error in the survey document rather than an intentional design choice, since the two classes have very different armor types, weapons, and thematic identities. Worth treating as a leak artifact rather than confirmed shared design.

Was the Necromancer really cut from the original WoW?

Yes. The Necromancer was part of WoW's design during early development and was ultimately removed before launch, with elements of its identity later folded into classes like the Warlock and, much later, the Death Knight. It has remained one of the most consistently requested classes in the community ever since.

Get Ready for WoW Forever

None of these classes are playable yet, and none are guaranteed — but if you want to be ready for launch day on November 4, 2026 regardless of what Blizzard eventually ships, GoldBoosting offers a WoW Forever leveling boost to get your character to level 60 fast, or the combined Leveling & Merchant's Favor Bundle to stock up on crafting currency at the same time.

You can also explore the complete WoW Forever Boosting Services catalog as new services go live.

Final Thoughts

Whatever actually ships, the ambition on display here is real: eight genuinely new class fantasies plus three reworked classics, all being tested at once, months before the game is even out. Some of these read like serious, well-thought-out pitches (Illusionist, Tinker, Rune Knight); some read like early, unpolished drafts still sharing copy-pasted ability blocks (Warden, San'layn). That gap is exactly what a leaked preference survey should look like — not a finished game, just Blizzard trying to find out what excites its players before committing engineering time to build it.
